The Infant/Toddler center provides care to children ages 6 weeks - 30 months. The program utilizes a curriculum where teachers guide children through socialization with peers, the acquisition of language skills, learning with independent exploration and positive caregiver interaction.

McNeilly offers preschool programs at two locations and serves 280 children ages 2-5. The McNeilly main site (Meridian) and the Nashville Child Center (NCC) utilize a comprehensive curriculum that develops the children’s minds and bodies through sequenced learning experiences.

We provide on-site programming at three neighborhood schools - Glenn Enhanced Option, Caldwell Enhanced Option, and Warner Enhanced Option Elementary. These programs serve children ages 4-12 providing before and after school care and all day care whenever Metro schools are not in session and during the summer.

The mission of McNeilly Center for Children is to provide affordable, quality childcare to children ages 6 weeks to 12 years whose parents are working, in job training, or in school, and further to provide parenting education and social services for the families of enrolled children.

About Us

History

HISTORY

McNeilly Center for Children was founded in 1916 when Reverend J.T. Coleman established a Presbyterian Sunday School and Mission and named it for his good friend, James McNeilly. The mission quickly discovered that quality child care was an emergent need for neighborhood families. On September 23, 1918, McNeilly Day Home opened as a community based program and began caring for nearly 100 children each day. Over time the McNeilly Day Home evolved into McNeilly Center for Children. McNeilly’'s long history includes several building and program expansions to meet the increasing child care needs of the community. McNeilly provides a safe environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children while responding to the needs of their families. McNeilly now provides safe, affordable child care for more than 500 children at six locations in East Nashville. McNeilly is accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and has been given the highest possible 3 Star rating by DHS.

McNeilly programs truly make a difference in the lives of children in need. We are committed to helping our children and their parents succeed. Our services empower low-income parents to provide a better life for their families and better prepare children for their future. All McNeilly programs are licensed by the Tennessee Department of Human Services and have earned a 3 STAR (highest possible) rating, our Infant/Toddler and preschool sites are Nationally accredited by NAEYC. McNeilly is a United Way of Metroplitan Nashville partner and offers the Read to Succeed Program. We are also a site for Head Start, Early Head Start, and a Metro Pre-K classroom.

1. How do I enroll my child?

Contact the Enrollment Counselor/ Family Services Coordinator at the Center where you would like your child to attend.

2. What is the cost for care, and what are your hours of operation?

Fees are income based on a sliding scale. McNeilly also accepts DHS certificates.

McNeilly provides only full-time care to infant, toddler and preschool children. The McNeilly Toddler & Preschool site (main site, as well as the Infant/Toddler Center operate Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 5:30 pm. Nashville Child Center (McNeilly at NCC) operates Monday - Friday from 6:30 am - 5:30 pm. All School -Age Sites are available 6:00 am - 6:00 pm.

3. What should I bring with me to my enrollment meeting/tour?

Please bring your child's shot records, and birth certificate, your social security card and picture ID, and a $10 enrollment fee.

4. Who is eligible for enrollment at McNeilly centers?

Child care is open to all parents who work, are in job training, or who are attending school. At our various sites we accept infants, pre-school and school-age children ages 6 weeks through 12 years. Enrollment shall be granted without discrimination in regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, religion or national origin. If there is no opening your name will be added to the waiting list.

5. Is McNeilly licensed or accredited?

Yes, McNeilly is licensed by the State of Tennessee and is a 3 Star (highest possible) program. Our preschool and infant/toddler programs are accredited by NAEYC (National Assocation for the Education of Young Children).

6. What curriculum is used in your classrooms?

Our youngest children at the Infant/Toddler site and preschool sites use The Creative Curriculum. Our preschool programs use DLM Early Childhood Express, and our 4 and 5 Year olds use Frog Street Pre-K Curriculum.

Some Facts:

Longitudinal studies have demonstrated that children who attend first-class early education and care programs are 40 percent less likely to repeat a grade, 30 percent more likely to graduate from high school, and more than twice as likely to go to college.

Without intervention, at-risk children begin school 18-24 months behind their more advantaged peers, according to Tennessee Kids Count.

A child who enters school reading below grade level has only a one in eight chance of catching up.

It is estimated that universal access to voluntary, quality early education would add 3 million jobs and almost $1 trillion annually to U.S. GDP over the long term
