How to Reclaim Your Brain in 90 Seconds

We have defined love as a discipline. Now, let’s talk about the biggest obstacle to that discipline: The Trigger. We have all been there, a passive-aggressive comment lands, a child rolls their eyes, or an instruction is not followed. In an instant, the "loving teacher" vanishes, and the "protective mammal" takes over. We react. We defend. We attack.
To operationalize love, we must master the art of the Pattern Interrupt.
🧠 The Brain Science
This phenomenon is known as the "Amygdala Hijack." When the brain perceives a threat (even a social one), it reroutes energy away from the prefrontal cortex (logic/empathy) and floods the body with stress hormones.
However, neuroscientist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor offers a solution: The 90-Second Rule. The chemical surge of an emotion only lasts about 90 seconds in the bloodstream. If you do not "feed" the emotion a story (e.g., "They don't respect me/this child is bad"), the chemical flush dissipates, and you can regain access to your higher brain.
🎯 What Is Important to Elevates
We elevates the pause. In a culture that rewards speed and immediate responses, we argue that the most powerful thing a leader can do is... nothing. For 90 seconds. By refusing to act while chemically flooded, you protect your relationships from your reactions. YOU RECLAIM YOUR BRAIN!
⭐ Leadership Practice: The Pattern Interrupt Protocol
Notice the Tell: When triggered, identify your physical signal (tight chest, hot face).
The 90-Second Pause: Stop. Do not type. Do not speak. Breathe.
The Shift Question: Ask, "Am I reacting to the past or responding to the present?"
🌸 The Invitation
This month, your goal is not to be "trigger-free." That is impossible. Your goal is to be "reaction-proof." Give yourself the gift of the pause. Reclaim your brain so you can lead with your heart.
